Both coins share same obverse and same reverse dies, why the different classification?

Perhaps the die was slightly recut?

If you can paste a pic of the relevant section folks here can probably determine the rationale--we have many native German speakers and many of us can read it as well.

I don't have access to the book of Christof Boehringer, but: In C. Arnold-Biucchi. "The Randazzo Hoard", ANSNS 18 (1990), both types are mentioned because they have been part of this hoard.
And following her Boehringer 121 and 122E do share the same reverse die, but have different obverse dies:

Perhaps this does explain it.

The obverse die V 55 E of 122 E is described as "nearly as V 60, 63 and 64, but with no …<here the text is blurry  :(>… the bad picture allows to recognize."
Obviously this was for Boehringer a different die.

Thanks Altamura the blurry is most likely a pearl diadem, for this is the only known die that Arethusa does not have it,just a plain head band, both coins look identical to me?o

I don't know what you meant to say because it is obvious that 121 and 122 E don't share the same obverse die (look at the head of the front horse). They share the same reverse die ( R 82) but not the same obverse one (V 55 and V 55 E)

blurry text is : "55 E    fast wie V 60, 63 und 64 aber mit keinem identisch, soviel die schlechte Abbildung erkennen läßt."

Boehringer was right in stating, despite the poor photo, that 55E is very similar to (especially) V60 but not the same
