MAXENTIUS FOLLIS LETTERING OFF THOUGHTS
« on: November 18, 2013, 04:35:27 pm »
This came in a group of coins I got a few weeks ago, interesting coin with a lot of symbolism.

However the lettering on the OBV looks soft especially on the MAG

On the REV the mint mark the lettering is not even

It looks fine. Those letters just haven't been fully struck up from the look of it.

Adrian , I might not be an expert , but I have seen a lot a lot of original coins in hands .
Your coin portrait looks fine to me . As Robert said , it has to be something with the strucking.

Sam,
Thanks same here I have handled about 100,000 (mostly uncleaned though) in my life time I assumed this was fine until I read a post earlier mentioning about letters being off which these are and that made me 2nd guess myself.

The coin does not seem to be very common and I assume its reffering to Rome the eternal city with Romulus and Remus confirming that in the symbolism
