Very pretty, interesting hair bun, vertical and semi detached. :)

A really beautiful JD.  What else can I say?  Good silver, too?  Pat L.

Great portrait, I must say.
Btw, she does look totallly different than on her denarii.

She looks like she's eyeing the head of the palace guards for a little adventure tonite... ;D Cute coin!

I love the soft face, she can look so stern on her older portraits.  I also got this one at the same time:
Caesarea, Cappadocia
Julia Domna
AR Drachm

Both coins are wonderful...the first one however has the better portrait IMHO.

Congrats on a great find!

arizonarobin,

Both coins are beauties.  I have only one Julia Domna in my collection--and I've posted it before--but, what the heck:

Julia Domna, AE24; Moushmov 4229, Pautalia; 24mm, 7.72g. Obverse: Draped bust right; Reverse: Tyche standing left with rudder and cornucopiae; nice VF; interesting portrait, attractive green patina.

A real difference with her older portraits.
It seems that court life with all the conspiracies and the struggle between Caracalla and Geta took a heavy toll.

Julia Domna AD 193-217 Silver Denarius
Obv: IVLIA PIA FELIX AVG - Bareheaded bust right, draped.
Rev: VENVS GENETRIX - Venus seated left, holding hand out and scepter.
Rome mint: AD 216 = RIC IVi, 388c, page 274 - Cohen 212 – SEAR RCV II (2002), #7106, page 555
