The ONE coin for each emperor

(1/2) > >>

Joe Sermarini:
Many Roman coin collectors would like to have one coin of as many emperors as they can find or afford.  I think that for many emperors if you only are going to buy one coin, there is a type or maybe a few types that are "the ONE" that is best for that emperor.  Some might be "the ONE" because they are historical, some because they are what I call "story" coins, some because they are a design unique to that emperor and you want at least one of that reverse type.  You might have your own reasons for specifying "the ONE" for a particular emperor.  Here are some of my personal examples:

- For Brutus, EID MAR denarius (OK, maybe not).
- For Caesar, DICT PERPETVO denarius.
- For Vespasian, a Judaea Capta Sestertius
- For Trajan, denarius with Trajan's column.
- For Elagabalus, Elagab in the reverse legend.
- For Julia Domna, Caracalla and Geta on the reverse.
- For Diocletian, PROVIDENT DEOR QVIES AVGG abdication follis
- For Magnentius, Chi Rho reverse
- For Julian II, AE 1 Bull reverse

What are your "the ONE" types and, if it isn't obvious, why?

Bacchus:
For Tiberius I suppose it would have to be the 'tribute penny' that most would go for as well.

Windchild:
I would say for Constantius Chlorus, the famous "Arras" medaillon (City of London kneeling in front of the Emperor..)

And for Maximian a coin from his second reign (he has never accepted the forced retierment imposed by Diocletianus...)
