Antoninus Pius with Marcus Aurelius...

(1/1)

Varangian:
Obv:  ANTONINVS - AVG PIVS P P; head bare r..
Rev:  AVRELIVS CAES AVG PII F COS DES; bust draped, head bare r.
Rome mint, AD 139.

I can't find this coin anywhere I've looked.  RIC, Cohen, WW, CoinArchives...all come up blank.

It's like RIC 415b, from AD 140, but with the obverse and reverse legends of 139.  Is it possibly a transition between the two years' issues?  Or is it listed somewhere, I just overlooked it?

Any ideas or information appreciated!  Thanks!

There were apparently two spec. of your denarius in the Reka Devnia hoard, reported by BMC 128 note = RSC 6a = Strack 66a with ill. on pl. V.
Yours is a much nicer specimen!

Varangian:
Forgive my being slow on the uptake, but, if I understand you correctly, this coin is published as a note to BMC 128, and is #6a in RSC.

So it is published, I just need to look in those references.

Thanks, Curtis!

curtislclay:
That's correct.
