The first item is a Roman era handle - likely from a small burial casket, perhaps for cremation ashes or for other items left with the buried person.

Not sure what the second item is - from the Goths??

Nice handle!  A lot of people call them helmet handles but they are usually far too small to be from a helmet.  More likely to be from some kind of casket as Shawn said.

Check out the sticky called Roman Handles at the top of this section.

The short answer is that the remains on the end prove yours is from a wooden chest-like object.

I think this may be part of a pectoral of large fancy necklace.  It hung as a pendant and then had many sub-pendants hanging from it.  They were worn by women in the early medieval era.  But it depends on how heavy it is.  Most of those were quite thin and so light.
