Caracalla or elagabalus, medalic issue
« on: May 24, 2015, 04:52:41 am »
Dear sears.

Three years ago a coin like that in attachment, a medalic issue from Antiocheia, Pisidia, 3nd Century A.D. was sold at a major international auctions. It was listed like a coin minted by Elagabalus in order to celebrate his victory over Macrinus.

From other side such types of coins usually listed as minted by Caracalla.

I will be so thankful if you will clarify the issue and provide me with a link with a picture of such coin listed in any catalog or auction.

Thank you in advance

Thank you for your prompt reply.

I saw the example you provided in that directory but it's not exactly the same as I listed.
Can you provide me with the similar to my type and the title Antoninus Pius Avg.?

Thank you

Here a similar one. Victory left on reverse and legend Antoninus  Aug on obverse.
Lots of variants for this coin. Try Kryzanovska ( qepd)

This looks like a portrait of Caracalla before he had a beard. That and the reverse type lead me to believe it's a coin of Caracalla. Here's a coin from my collection showing Caracalla without a beard:
