The coin is a fake and the worst profile of the Sun King that I’ve ever seen! Genuine 1668 Louis XIV ¹⁄₁₂ ecus have low mintages. Here’s a real 1668 Louis XIV ¹⁄₁₂ ecu compared to the forger’s comical version which he apparently filed down to make less comical. The forger’s legends and portrait are a complete mess.

Clearly it is not what it ought to be. I think calling it a forgery is generous. I didn't think it could be intended to fool anyone.

I have only one French silver coin in my collection but intend to add more to my gallery, especially the smaller quarter ounce varieties. Here’s my 1873-A Silver 5 Francs with peripheral toning.

France, Third Republic (1870-1940), Silver 5 Francs, 1873-A, Davenport 92, KM 820.1, Gadoury 745a, Friedberg 334, Hercules (Dupré) type, gEF, old tone with light colour in periphery, raised edge lettering DIEU ★ PROTEGE ★ LA ★ FRANCE ★★★★★ (God Protect France), weight 25.0g, maximum diameter 37.0mm, die axis 180°, Paris mint, 1873; obverse (olive branch) LIBERTÉ ÉGALITÉ FRATERNITÉ (Liberty, Equality, Fraternity), bearded Hercules standing facing, semi-nude, clad in Nemean lion scalp headdress, forepaw on left shoulder, lion-skin cloak draped around waist and left arm, lion’s legs and tail behind legs, between, with his hands on their shoulders, Liberty standing half-right, with shoulder-length hair, right breast bare, wearing peplos, long sceptre surmounted by Hand of Justice vertical in right hand, clasping hands with Equality standing half-left, hair bound in sakkos, wearing long chiton, archipendulum in left, ★ Dupré ★ raised in exergue for engraver Augustin Dupré, toothed border surrounding; reverse RÉPUBLIQUE-FRANÇAISE ★ (French Republic), engraved by Augustin Dupré, 5/FRANCS/1873 in three lines, within closed olive and oak wreath tied with bow at bottom, mint mark A below bow, flanked by bee and anchor privy marks, toothed border surrounding.
