Hi,
lately I received the following coin:
AE 33, 33.22 mm, 22.01 grm. 12h
Obv: Laureate, cuirrassed
bust of
Caracalla right, M AVREL ANTONINVS
PIVSRv: Astarte-Tyche standing facing, extending her right hand to a tropaion to her left, between her and tropaion:
palm. She holds a
transverse sceptre and is crowned by a winged
Victoria standing on a
column on the right
side.

COLONIAAs the
reverse does no have Marsyas/Silen to her left but the
palm, the coin is not one listed in
Rouvier 2311 or 2312 (besides, if he described any of these erroneously). It is to large for 2310 which hovever also has the
Marsyas instead of the
palm. The
reverse, however is the same as recorded under
Rouvier 2298 for
Septimius Severus.
Rouvier cites
Mionnet VIII, pg. 305 no. 321 for
his 2311 - and indeed
Mionnet states that there is a
palm instead of the
Marsyas. However, both legends given in
Mionnet are different, since the
obverse legend of
Mionnet's coin is
IMP CAES M AV ANTONINVS
AVG and the rv. SEPTIM TYRO COLON. Neither works with my coin.
Also, the coin Imhoof-Blumer describes in Monnaies Greques (and which
Rouvier cites as 2312) has a different
obverse legend:
M AVR ANT
IMP.
So, seemingly, this is a new variety. However, of course any information and input is highly appreciated. There also seems to be a similar coin in
AUB 206 to which I have no access.
