Bronze Disease Example
« on: November 22, 2022, 01:16:27 pm »
As far as I know, I've never come across Bronze disease. Now I have the chance to acquire this coin here but it looks like it has bronze disease. I'm willing to give it a go to restore the piece but I want to confirm what this might be.
Looking for more underpriced uncleaned coins. Let me know if you find them.

99% certain that is bronze disease.  (One can never be 100% sure from a photo.)

The bright green appears to be powdery.  The dark red is often associated with previous outbreaks of BD.

On the bright side it does look save-able.

In my opinion, that is almost certainly BD.

If you do get the coin and control the spread, dry it really well with heat and consider a light coat of renwax.

I was thinking of a comprehensive cleaning. It could use it overall. The Bronze disease is just one more thing to treat.
