I too would love to know more about this piece's inscription.....

Perhaps cross posting it in one of the coin related "identification" threads (even though it's obviously not a coin) would draw more eyes to it?

Too bad it's not an LMLK seal!

Hi,

I'm sure one of the three stamped handles that I have reads Antimachus like this specimen and also has the caduceus. I'll try and dig it out and post a picture tomorrow. Will be interesting to see if it is exactly the same stamp. If it is the one I am thinking of mine has had the ends smoothed in recent times to neaten it for display, sadly.

Regards,

Mauseus

@JAY: Yes what a shame i always wanted a seal with LMLK, the five i have neither of them has this seal.
@Mauseus: Thanks a lot for interpreting the manufacturer's name: Antimachus. and i am looking forward to see your example and the other two.
Dear Friends if any one have a sealed handle please post it, it would be very nice to see the varieties of these types.

Hi,

Isn't it funny how the memory plays tricks. My handle with the caduceus is from a different mould and is a different style. It is weakly pressed and the area where the name is/woud be is not pressed up.

Regards,

Mauseus

Here is one that was sold by Archaeological Center in Tel Aviv, in 2007.  The caduceus is above the name, instead of below. They do not offer any other information about it.  "Hellenistic Terracotta Amphora Handle. Impressed with a rectangular seal depicting a caduceus and the Greek name “ANTIMAXOY”."

@mauseus thanks alot for posting your second example the seal is not the usual rectangular it is smaller and more square, very nice one indeed.
@Jimi: The jar handle you posted is definitly from the smae manufacturer as mine no doubt, i wish the had put more information but thanks alot for the direction.
