Hi all. I have a bronze coin from
Caesarea Maritima that appears to be a coin of
Alexandria with Canopus of
Osiris. I think I can see ... KΛAY KA..., which might mean
Claudius or
Nero, or possibly ...K MAPK O..., for
Otho.
Acsearch.info has a coin ascribed to
Claudius (Emmet 93), but the
inscription does not match what I see on my
coin. Same with their coin of
Otho (
BMC Alexandria 216). Of course, if I am way off in my reading, then there
are a few other emperors with a Canopic
type from year 1 to choose from. I have checked all the online reference
sites I can think of but have not found
good photographs or drawings with which to compare for a die match. Any
help or suggestions to determine the correct ruler and reference would be most appreciated. Thanks, V-drome.
