Treating rust looking breaks in patina

There is supposedly, a thin red layer under every green patina. I recall reading this in some rather scientific paper full of chemistry (which is outside of my area of knowledge). I no longer recall what paper it was.

Thanks Joe. I have frequently encountered that red/orange/rust color on the surface of the metal beneath green patina. It definitely prevents LOS and jax from being an effective touch up (yes, Ron, I’m in that camp). If I can figure out what that layer is perhaps a chemical way of darkening will become obvious. I find the rust colored layer particularly unattractive. Sometimes the red is kind of nice looking though.
