What coin books do you have/use?

(1/3) > >>

David Atherton:
This has probably been asked before but enough newer folks have joined and personal libraries grow, so I thought it not out of place to ask.

The three main references I use are:

BMC II
RSC II
Van Meter
(still haven't got the Sears books yet)

I have many other books about coins by Michael Grant, Harold Mattingly, Duncan-Jones, Kenneth Harl, ect...
As far as the Ancient coin collecting hobby itself, Wayne G Sayles excellent Ancient Coin Collecting I is very useful.

On forgeries I have Sayles' Classical Deception which is very interesting

The Oxford Classical Dictionary comes in handy too!

So what are you folks using out there?

LordBest:
I use RSC as i mostly deal with silver.

Severus_Alexander:
I use RSC most, BMC next for the great write ups, CNG Cop, and AMNG.    I also list a review of references as they relate to Severus Alexander at http://www.severusalexander.com/References.htm.

Thank you.

Jochen:
I have 3 groups of books:
1 for attribution:
   RIC I to X
   BMC I to III
   Cohen I to VIII, and a special dictionary (now online!)
   LRBC
   Sear: RCV I + II
   Kankelfitz, for a short overview
2 for the history of coinage:
   Howgego: Geld in der antiken Welt
   Seek: Geld und Tribute, in Vol.II of his work
   Jones: A Dictionary of Ancient Roman Coins
3 for deeper information
   Pauly: Lexikon der Antike, 8 vol.
Besides this I use cataloges of auctions and books about special themes like 'coins and Roman myths' or 'ships on Roman coins' and so on.
And I use Stowasser: Latin Dictionary, and Wecker: Latin Grammar for translation of inscriptions

Regards,
Jochen

60_Driver:
RIC II and III;
RCV I and II;
Van Meter;
Cohen;
Roman Bronze Coins.

I need to get RIC VI and VII and LRBC.  Been looking diligently for the BMC volumes that correspond to the RIC's with no luck, and I'm waiting for RCV III to come out.
