Nice portrait of Nero, one of the more attractive I've seen!!!!

It dosen't make him look like Jabba the Hut like he does in so many of his coins ;D

Hey Steve!

Thanks for that! I'm sure Nero appreciates that, too ;)

Although it might be fair to say that NO ONE could have acted MORE like Jabba than Nero ;D

Maybe that's where George Lucas got his inspiration for the character ;D

Hello All!

Three more additions today, this time 3 LRBs:

All three have surprisingly good portraits considering when they were minted.

Very nice [for a Postumus sestertius]. Not something that, usually, overly grab my attention but I really like the centering on this one. A perfect flan (and strike) for the dies.

I'm one of those wrong-headed fools who decided to go for a Roman Imperial portrait collection  :'(

While I know that I'll never collect them all, I've decided to collect the ones that I can collect with my limited means.

Mark Z.
Fool for the Ancients  ;)

Well Mark, I've said it before, but I must repeat that I admire your collection.  I too am attempting to put together an Imperial Collection.  I also know that I'll never have a "complete collection", but it is going to be fun building one.

By the way, the way you're going you just might complete yours.

Hey Minos!

Thank you!

Yes, this one falls under the category of "I had to have it!"

Hey Bud!

Thank you! :-)

Yes, the fun part is in the chasing, isn't it?

We'll get there one of these days, won't we ;)

p.s. If i could get that Pacatian away from "kc" I'd be feeling better about getting it done, though :D

ecoli,

I thought I was the only one, but I'm happy to see that I'm not the only collector who's howling at the moon :D

by the way, that's quite an impressive collection you have!

Indeed a very nice addition to your fine collection :)

I'm really drawn to the large bronze coins. Maybe its because they are easier to see with my aging eyes :'( But I also like the substantial feel of worth they exude! Nice portraits are always attractive to me as well.

Congrats! Steve

Steve,

Agreed on both points! :)

While I cannot stand pocket change, it must have felt quite good to have some of these large bronze coins jangling around in one's pocket or leather bag.

Happy Friday All!

Today's addition:

What I thought was the most common/ordinary of coins turned out to be something quite different:

Valentinian I RIC IX 26a var. (Thessalonica)

Here's a note from Dane (Helvetica) @ Wildwinds.com:

A rare mule with a Valentinian I obverse and Gratian reverse,
this is the second one I know of. dk

(Thank you, Dane!)

This one turned up in a pile of uncleaned coins (and puts me somewhat at odds with my position regarding purchasing uncleaned coins!) ;)

Happy Monday All!

Today' addition:

A very sharp and beautifully toned Valens siliqua (MUCH nicer than the photo shows, this being the best I can do with 6.0 MP).

RIC IX 27e.2 Trier, RSC 109b.
2.06 g, 12 mm x 13 mm.
Rated Scarce.

Your ratings and comments are appreciated on this and all the coins in my gallery (link below) :)

Thanks for checking in!

Regards,
mz

Congratulations on your great find Mark.

Hi Bud!

Thank you!

That makes TWO coins out of the 1000 or so I've cleaned in the past 5 years that I've kept ;)

Hello All!

You might not think that Constantius Gallus coins are very exciting (and neither would I!), but this latest addition to my gallery made me change my mind:

Constantius Gallus Maiorina

RIC VIII 306 Siscia, rated Scarce

4.85 g, 21 mm x 22 mm

Your ratings and comments are, as always, much appreciated!
