ROMAN PROVINCIAL ASSISTANCE PLEASE!
« on: February 16, 2007, 03:58:40 pm »
Hi again to all!

I just received a great lot of Provincials from here at FORVM!  I'm having a great time attributing them - There are just a couple I would like a little assistance with!

The first one is NOT a good scan - best I could do! It looks like old Septimus Severus to me - My question:  Is that a chair on the reverse? I would like an idea of what AREA ( Geographic) to search!

Second coin:  Looks almost greek! Obverse with female (diety?) Reverse: I have no idea!  Not even sure which end goes up! It looks like a ball with 2 lines above it. Turned around, maybe an amphora jug with II below it. Am interested in what area this might be from!

Many thanks to all!

I think it is not a chair on the rev., but two crossed cornucopias. Which size is this coin? There is a small type (AE18) from Philippopolis f.e. and I can read Phi-Iota-Lambda on your rev.

Best regards

There's no need to write thread titles in all caps, by the way.

Hi Jochen - Yes, I think you've got it!  The coin is indeed almost 18 mm...

I should be able to find it with that information!  Many thanks!

AREICH -- Sorry, caps lock was on!  :o
