As far as I can tell, this seems to be a copy of an Aureus:

Gordian III AV Aureus. 239 AD. IMP CAES M ANT GORDIANVS AVG, laureate, draped & cuirassed bust right / P M TR P II COS P P, Providentia standing left holding globe & transverse scepter. Cohen 195.

I wont go out on a leg and say this is fake, but let me put it this way: I wouldnt buy it.

The portrait looks at least unusual.

None of my Gordians (and I've got now several dozen) looks like this guy... I'm no expert, but I wouldn't buy it either.

doesn't appear to be struck.  I don't see the stress lines around the letters.  It is not a sand cast.  centrifugal spin cast maybe?
