Rare and Lovely Domitian Denarius
« on: May 01, 2014, 04:32:00 am »
It's not often that one comes across a rare coin that is also quite eye catching. The postman delivered this beauty recently: https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-109168

Struck in 88, the coin is rare because it records Domitian's 15th imperial acclamation - a very rare title recorded on the coinage sometime before mid September.

It is well centered on good metal and engraved in a lovely style, typical of many coins from that year.

Excellent addition. It's surprising how much subtle variation there is in these Minerva denarii. Before being exposed to your collection, they all looked the same to me. Thanks for sharing!  +++

Thanks Dave! I must admit, until I started collecting Domitian's Minerva series in earnest I thought they all looked the same too. Now I know better.  ;)

I also thought all the Minerva types were the same ;D  Great piece David.  I love that portrait style.
