Fake Agrippa As?
« on: April 23, 2014, 09:23:09 am »
I wondered whether anyone would be kind enough to take a look at this Caligula as...Agrippa/Neptune type. I am almost certain it is fake. I see a number of small surface pits that are probably from casting bubbles. In addition, I think the general features of the coin are too soft. I don't have the experience, however, to give it its final condemnation and would be grateful for an experienced opinion. If it is a fake, is this one I should place on the FORVM list?

Weight 10.07g, diameter 27mm, DA 180deg

Btw, if necessary I can take some edge photos and post them too. FYI there is not an obvious cast seam, but under a loup signs of filing are visible.

In a nutshell, I do think this is a fake, but would just like that confirmation....

Many thanks,
Derek.
