Great write up. I was not aware there were posthumous issues of coins in honour of Titus. Awesome patina!

Re: Flavian gallery - Nicely toned Titus Annona Sestertius
« Reply #579 on: November 21, 2017, 01:14:18 pm »
Hello everyone.

The Annona sestertius with left portrait was my first Titus coin, some 30 years ago.

Eventually I got the right portrait: for unknown reasons many sestertii of Titus are way more common with the left portrait.

Good details and a warm toning make me love this coin.

Kind regards

Alberto

Hi Alberto,

That is a great coin! Despite some wear and pitting the details are sharp and has one of the best portraits of Titus I have seen. He looks slightly optimistic and deep in thought.

Hello everyone,

I'm pleased to share three assorted Flavian coins landed today to my collection.

Hello evryone,

among my latest acquisitions this coin is a favorite of mine.

Indeed I love this reverse type, carried over by Trajan too, and it's my fifth example out of a total of seven issues.

One of the rarest too.

The coin is worn yet fully enjoyable.

I hope you like it too.

Kind regards

Alberto

Re: Flavian gallery - Very rare Vespasian Judaea Capta As
« Reply #592 on: April 27, 2018, 06:53:15 am »
Hello everyone,

it doesn't happen often to come across Vespasian middle bronzes celebrating his victory in the Jewish war, since they are much more scarcer than sestertii or denarii of the same subject.

This early As from the mint of Rome depicts a scene much alike the one you usually see on denarii.

The coin is worn, but so are even those on London collection.

Kind regards

Alberto

Re: Flavian gallery - Vespasian Iudaea Capta As from Lugdunum
« Reply #593 on: April 27, 2018, 09:37:42 am »
Having uploaded my last purchase, I thought that it would be nice to make a pair with the Lugdunum as of the same subject that wasn't already in the gallery.

It's a later issue, with a portrait in typical Lugdunum style.

Kind regards

Alberto

Re: Flavian gallery - Extremely rare Domitian mule (double portrait As)
« Reply #596 on: May 28, 2018, 07:06:16 am »
Hello everyone,

as far as I recall this should be the only AE mule recorded in RIC.

It's double portrait from the early dies of 81 A.D.

Over the week I received a few coins.

Here is a couple of nice dupondii, struck in the name of Vespasian and Iulia Titi.
