The original TI :dot::dot: A countermark appears only on asses of Caligula and is dated to the reign of Claudius (41- 54 AD). (Sl. Bech 60, Werz 474)

However your example is in my opinion an barbaric imitation of such a countermarked coin.

Very nice!

It is a clear sign that the countermarked asses were indeed a valued currency, or otherwise they would not have been imitated.

Probably it's a matter of contemporary forgery, a so called "Limes Falsum" (cast), because the countermark seems to be reversed left to right. "Limes Falsi" = emergency money of the 1st century AD.

It does not look cast and the style of the countermark is not official, so it is not a "limes falsum" - which usually are later anyway.

Well Pscipio knows  ... his stuff quite well. ;-)

Anyway I agree with him. It is not a limes falsum, but an ancient imitation and an interesting one!
