Traded Gold for Marcus Antonius!
« on: August 18, 2021, 09:29:29 pm »
I spotted this Marcus Antonius and Octavia silver Cistophoric Teradrachm at the ANA coin show in Chicago. My other Antony coins have sub-par portraits, and that must-have feeling took over. I traded one of my gold coins that I felt I could part with for this historical coin with an OK portrait. I do not regret it!

Obverse: M ANTONINVS IMP COS DESIG ITER ET TERT    Jugate heads of Marc Antony, wreathed with ivy and berries, and Octavia, bare-headed, right.

Reverse: III VIR RPC     Cista mystica between two coiled serpents, Dionysos (Bacchus) standing left above, holding kantharos and thyrsos.

Possibly Ephesus mint. Sear:1513

May I ask what gold coin did you trade for this coin?

Sorry, I didn't trade because I don't collect gold.
I just wanted to show something similar of my own that I’ve had with me for many years.

@Joe: Oh sorry, I know. My question was directed to Panathas, the only other participant in this thread, as he wrote he traded the Antonius for gold. I thought that was clear  :)

I traded a mediocre Solidus of Theodosius II I purchased a few years back.

@Joe. Thanks for sharing. Your coin shows Antony's facial expression very well.

Excellent trade.  I love these big eastern tetradrachms with Antony's portrait.  Very historical type.

Since Q posted his, here's mine as well
