Three Domitian architectural Denarii
« on: May 26, 2021, 09:31:51 am »
Hello everyone.

I received today a long sought after coin, which joins two other denarii that were part of my old gallery, at the time deleted due to the bad quality of the photos.

They are all part of the series of new types minted by Domitian towards the end of his reign.

In the new coin, rather worn, it seems to be missing, as well as on the specimens of London and Berlin, the inscription on the architrave of the temple.

Unfortunately, given the extreme rarity of these coins, it is difficult to find them in better condition.

I am happy to share them all together here.

Hi FD,

Nice coins! :)

I love those architectural reverses.

I especially like your second coin. It depicts Jupiter seated in a temple.

I will soon be posting in my website a coin that I won in a recent Italian auction. It is a denarius of Augustus depicting Jupiter standing in a temple. It is the "Aedes of Jupiter Tonans" type, and the statue contained within the temple is possibly a reproduction of the famous statue of Leochares.

Thanks Meepzorp!

I'm looking forward to see your Augustus denarius too.
