Gordian III/Laurent Bricault Collection
« on: April 17, 2017, 10:28:11 pm »
These two beauties came from from a recent auction, the sale of Laurent Bricault collection of coins representing Isis and Serapis and other Egyptian Dieties. The first coin from Kallatis is the 2nd known example, a die match to SNG Hungary 10, and the second coin from Marcianopolis appears to be unique, (so far). His catalog is Syllogue Nummorum Religionis Isiacae et Sarapiacae (SNRIS), which I do not have, but the auction catalog serves as a stand in.

Coin 1: 2017,107,2; Moesia Inferior, Kallatis; Gordian III

AE29; 11.96 g; 1h
Obverse: AVT K M ANT GORDIANOC AVG; Laureate bust right.
Reverse: KAL-LAT-IANWN; E in right field; Isis, left, crowned head right, holding billowing sail.
Ref: SNG Hungary 10; SNRIS 08
Notes: Ex Laurent Bricault Collection.

Coins 2: 2017.107.3; Moesia Inferior; Marcianopolis; Gordian III

AE28; 11.93 g; 1h
Obverse: ANTWNIOC GORDIANOC AVG ; AVT K M, beneath confronted busts of Gordian III and Serapis, wearing kalathos.

Ref: SNRIS Marcianopolis 69
Notes: cf AMNG 1164, for seated Tyche but different dies; ex Laurent Bricault Collection.
