Title: Marcus Antonius denarius RRC 536/4
Post by: Pawel K on May 29, 2021, 05:08:51 pm
Hi again :)

One of the Polish shops offers Marcus Antonius denarius RRC 536/4.

First pic shows "Polish" coin and second one shows coin sold as genuine by NAC about month ago.

Honestly "Polish" specimen looks quite qood for me, but I'm always suspicious when I see two rare coins minted with identical dies, sold in month apart.

What is your opinion?

Pardon me, I've uploaded wrong picture (the 2nd one). Here is correct.

And with exactly the same degree of wear - well, I suppose it's possible.

They are both die struck and the style and fabric look pretty good... if they are fake, then it must be from a die transfer process. Hard to fake the edge poriosity on coin 1 though.  Honestly, I'm not sure. the first coin looks better and sharper.

So it is unlikely but possible coincidence?

A die match for a rare type is NOT a strong indicator, unless it is a die match to a known fake.
