Title: Arrowhead, spearhead, dagger?
Post by: novice on August 29, 2021, 03:32:46 pm

Hi,

Can anyone ID and date this?  It is a bit long (94mm) for an arrowhead; tang seems proportionately long for a spearhead or dagger.  It is Middle European, Bronze Age.

Thanks.

I'm reasonably sure it's an arrowhead. Seems quite similar to Petrie XLI, 27 (Georgia). Long tang, deltoid-shaped head, prominent rib.

Thanks for the help with the artifact.  I think it may well be an arrowhead.

The person I got it from believes it is very early Bronze Age (for Middle Europe) partially because of the engraved lines, which are reminiscent of Bell Beaker.  But arrowheads tended to be smaller that far back, which creates some doubt.

I don't know how significant this is, but my specimen has a blunter tip.

Is there a time frame for the Georgian specimen?

Regards,
