Another recent acquisition just arrived, this time from an auction in France I don't usually follow - a scarce early septimius severus denarius from Rome.  Nice strike too.

Posting my latest acquisition from Forum, in this case a fairly common VOTA PVBLICA denarius I didn't already have (so thanks Joe!).

Really pleased to show off this latest addition to the collection.  Picked it up from HJB - an ex-Curtis L. Clay dynastic denarius if Septimius SeverusRIC R3, no examples in the RD Hoard, and interestingly in an ancient bronze mount.  Reverse of laureate, draped and cuirassed busts of Septimius Severus and Caracalla facing one another.

Suffice it to say, this is a pretty rare coin.

Hope you all enjoy it!

Very cool rarity and great that you got a Clay coin.  That mount is interesting too, I wonder which side was worn facing out.

I managed to get several Flavians from his collection too.

Just added a nice Emesa mint "old style" denarius that I had thought was forever lost in the mail (shipped to me in November 2024 and just turned up Friday!).  This one is "scarce" in RIC.  I do like these trophy & captives reverses.

I bought an upgrade, which was then dropped and chipped...

I do have an ancient imitative of the type too....

oh no, breaking a coin would be the worst!

I definitely have not had the focus on Emesa coinage of septimius severus that you have Martin, but I feel I continue to grow my septimius severus denarii collection in positive ways.

It's been a spell since I posted a gallery update, but I have added a few new denarii over the last few months.

First a really nice upgrade on my RIC 69 denarius:

Next, two examples of RIC 197 - a Roma reverse. Not sure which of these I prefer, actually. Both a nicely centered and struck with fully formed legends on both sides:

And lastly, an RIC 241, of Neptune - the rarest among today's postings.

Picked this one up last month, just getting to posting it now.  A Forum acquisition (thanks Joe!). In this case a rare Alexandria mint coin that was not represented in the Reka Devnia Hoard, and was not catalogued by Cohen.  It is in RIC as an R1.

Strike is a little soft, but given rarity, I'll take it.

It's been a while since I was able to locate some Septimius coins I needed, the holes are becoming harder to fill as my collection has expanded.

I recently acquired two pieces I needed.  Firstly, an example of RIC 218, with a really nice reverse of Concordia:

https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=195507

And secondly, a nicely struck RIC 261 of Felicitas

https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=195506

The Concordia coin is by far the scarcer of the two.

Hopefully I'll continue to find new coins to acquire that fill holes - the Septimius pickings that interest me seem to have been slimmer of late at the usual places.
