At long last-Pics of my Greek Stater, now, is it real?
« on: March 14, 2011, 08:00:31 pm »
Hi everyone, Here at long last are high def pictures of my Greek silver stater that I got in a group for $24. I need help with if it is authentic.

All right, to start, I don't know much about silver or Greek coins. However, this coin does seem to have some things going for it. Firstly, notice the red in the patina on the reverse. I would consider that a good sign. There is a ridge along the rim. It looks like if it was real, the flan was cast in a strip of flans and cut. (Notice detail picture).

I will leave it at that.

Thanks for any help!
Nathan
All the best,
Nathan

hmm, these are different. On mine there is a C shape below (maybe a crescent?). Also the design behind it is different.
All the best,

'C' for Counterfeit, or Copy. Sorry, but this is unquestionably a fake.

Identical flan shapes, identical centering compared to the fake example i posted before. These are "twins".

Best regards

Even without the identical counterfeit in hand, the coin does not look right.
