Help needed for long-hair busts
(1/1)
Jochen:
Hi!
This is a coin of a friend from the German Forum which is a heavy riddle for me. At a first glance it looks like a Bosporian coin because of the long-hair of the busts. But now I think it could be from a very different time: The busts have some similarity to the Spanish conquerors. You see that my suggestions are widely spread!
Any one who have seen this type before or can give me a clue?
Best regards

To me, it has the look of Trajan with maybe Melqart. Is it silver?

hi Jochen,
I think the coin is from one of the Bosporus kings Rheskuporis I, Sauromates I, Kotys II, Rhoemetalkes or Eupator.
The left protrait looks like Antoninus Pius . If it is antoninus so the king is Rhoemetalkes or Eupator.

Jochen:
Thanks for sharing your opinions! I have asked the owner for physical datas of his coin. The problem with the Bosporian hypothesis is that in MacDonald all related coins don't have legends on both sides. Generally the side with the Roman emperor bears only the year.
The coin is bronze and 17mm.
What's the matter with time of the Baroque?
Best regards
