The joint issue of the tresviri of 82 bc Censorinus, Limetanus and Crepusius

(1/1)

FEDERICO D:
I am pleased to show you a reconstruction of the denarius issue in the name of all three Roman Republican moneyers of 82 BC (L. Censorinus, C. Limetanus and P. Crepusius) which presents 78 different specimens from which it is possible to infer the use of 64 obverse and 71 reverse dies. This is certainly not as exhaustive as Hersh’s reconstruction of the issue in which he identified 99 reverse dies (according to Buttrey’s testimony) but awaiting the retrieval and publication of Hersch’s corpus, the reconstruction presented here still constitutes a step ahead of Crawford’s theoretical scheme of 56 obverse dies and 62 reverse dies.
