AE24 of Julia Domna?, three horses
« on: January 02, 2007, 03:46:49 pm »
Hi!
This one looks like Julia D, I see AD (or LD) at 11h and the CEBACTH from 1h to 4h.
The reverse seems to be Nike in Triga right, like on this one:

Koinon von Thessalien
obv: A - U K M AUR - ANTWNINOC.
rev: QECCAL / NW / KOINON.

What does Koinon of Thessalia mean?

So far, all I can find on this Koinon ThessalĂ´n (as distinct from the Hellenistic Thessalian Confederacy) is Head, Historia Numorum, p. 312.  Tomorrow I can get to BMC for Thessaly.  The head looks more like the generation of Salonina, for example, than Julia Domna.  The only citation I found in CoinArchives was to 'Rogers', which I do not know.  Pat L.
