Odd anon. follis??
« on: January 31, 2004, 10:21:57 pm »
got this in a recent batch of uncleans. It still needs some work but it has peaked my curiosity? I don't recall ever seeing an Anonymous Follis with this reverse motif? Can anyone give me any info on it? I suppose it is common as mud and I just have not seen it because I don't spend much time looking at Byz coins??

Hmm... With the trouble I am having locating other examples it must be a bit scarce? I found the one on Wildwinds and one in Forvm's sold file, but so far thats about it.

Yes S-1866  he lists it in VF at 10 pounds and EF at 25 pounds. So not rare, I think it was once listed as part of the anyonmous follis series but latter attrbuted to Romanus IV.
