This is quite interesting-a very nice reverse and such a poor obverse. Possibly something from the striking process. I cannot see anything clear on the obverse. It is the kind of coin that only the patina contrast keeps it "alive"

Yes V, my scan is bad compaired to the actual coin, very sweet reverse. The obv has  nothing I can make out, I read on wildwinds about a Isaac II  tet they attributed with a blank obverse  calling it  Flat, late stage brockage.

I am not sure what that means but I wonder if it would apply here as well?

Any Thoughts?

Thanks

Quick update.

Based on the obverse this coin attributes as Alexius DOC 35.6

Bust of Emperor wearing stemma, divitision and chalmys holds in r. hand sceptre cruiger and in l gl. cr.

LLC DCC

The obverse should be

Christ seated on a thrown with no back.
After going through DOC it turned out this is the only Alexius obverse that matches. The hand sceptre cruiceger was the key.
