Hi everyone,
I got this
Probus coin as a freebie thrown-in, in
London along with another English hammered coin. I don't collect
Roman coins (yet...
) but I do have a 2005 copy of Sear's
Roman Coins and their Values III.
In terms of
patina it is slightly shiny in the sunlight. 3.612g, 2.2cm
diameter.
Obv:
VIRTUS PROB
Rev: PROVIDENT AUG
XXIIn
exergue: S and maybe a "P" or "Q"?? in the
field.
I'm guessing it is a Billion
Antoninianus, with
catalogue ID between 12013-12019. However, none seem to perfectly fit.
12013 - Nope, no E in
field12014 - Nope, no
IMP in Obv
12015 - Nope, no T in
exergue12016 - Nope, no
cornucopia12017 - Nope, globe isn't at feet
12018 - Nope, no
cornucopia12019 - Very similar but mine doesn't say
IMP on obv
There are a few more coins listed with
PROVIDENTIA or
VIRTUS but they all say things like Globe at Feet which doesn't fit.
Anyone have ideas about ID or Value?
