strange face on half follis

Hi. I can't make the name of the ruler of this one, but the portrait looks very strange.
Is it an imitation? Why should it have been done, considering the low value of the coin in the first place?
What do you think?

The half follis (K) of Maurice Tiberius without mint mark was produced at three locations, Constantinople, Nicomedia and Cyzicus.  The only way the experts have been able to distinguished them is by comparing the styles of the portraits to those on the follis (M), which did have mint marks on the reverse.  The attributions are somewhat subjective for that reason, but there are differences that become apparent when you look at a large number coins.  Here is a recent thread that deals with this question:

If you search on ACSearch.info for Maurice Half follis you will see many examples that may help you decide.  Here is one that looks a lot like yours, claimed to be from Constantinople.  Without a lot more research I would have no way to be sure that attribution is correct, but it is almost certainly from one of the three mints listed above.  Others here may have more specific information for you.  Good luck, and nice coin!  Jimi
