new account of old fake seller
« on: August 07, 2010, 06:05:41 pm »
[LINK REMOVED BY ADMIN]

sacra-moneta is another account (the name is well known though) of the notorious fake seller David Suter (though the name and address given are of someone else), best known for his Julius-Nepos account. Right now he sells his trademark uncleaneds, he has only sold one single coin so far, a fake of course.

[BROKEN LINK REMOVED BY ADMIN]

His activity with this account before that was just buying junk to build positive feedback.

Darn it!  >:( Some days ago, I bought some uncleaned coins from him - I did check in the Notorious Fake Sellers List before committing myself, but could not find him (obvious, if it's a new address).

So,  I can expect these uncleaned coins to be fakes - you call them his trademark ?

No, they will be genuine. His uncleaned coins are not exactly fraud but of course you'll never end up with a coin like the
ones he illustrates.

Thanks, Areich. That's some reassurance.  I will see what turns up in them, and will (hopefully) be more careful in the future.

I would keep my eyes open for these new Late Roman fakes, he might put a few in.
He helped distribute them when they were new.

They'll be genuine but not really uncleaned. You can be sure they've been cleaned up well enough for anything of value to be culled out of there. Of course, that's the case with 99% (or more) of uncleaned lots, wherever you get them from.

It gets better:

I'm not naive enough that his parents have finally found out and grounded him for life but it's a small victory at least,
however it came to be.

Below picture a reminder of the great photography techniques of this seller; not a fake but a very deceptive photo. If anyone sees the below actual coin for sale anywhere, it has been "lost in the post", en-route back to this seller for a refund, which I never obtained after a 3 month battle with paypal and ebay.

That looks like more than just photography techniques, photoshop techniques is also very likely.  This never gets old.

The purpose of this thread was to get him on the fake seller list.
I think there used to be a nomination thread, I'm not exactly sure how it's handled now.

Re #12: That needn't be Photoshop.  Don't blame Adobe for what dozens of free software will do just as extremely.  Of course, if you wanted to pay for name brand, you could, but you needn't.

Mainly strong sidewards artificial lighting, I'd say, a common tactic to enhance the profile and details of a coin on a picture. David Suter has been doing this for years.

I'm hoping that whoever at Ebay was willing and able to delete (at least) two of his accounts will do the same for this one.
It is obvious that it's the same guy.
Then again I once reported a seller who offered a cast fake Athenian tetradrachm using the exact same picture as the seller who sold it as a replica. Nothing happened though it was as obvious as could be.

His Tiberius denar looks very odd.
Especially the legends and the style.
I bought some uncleand coins from him, too.
They were all authentic, but of extreme low quality and not worth the money.

A large percentage of the silver David Suter offers at any time is fake.

Where in the world did you find that pic Andreas!?! Is that of his own doing?

He should use that pic as his eBay ID so everyone knows what a clown he actually is.

No, it's a derivative work based on his own, published picture.
Made with Blingee.com. It's a great site though teens use it unironically.
