Title: Imitation ?
Post by: Rugser on April 29, 2003, 08:39:32 pm
This pseudo-coin is of lead.
The style seems barbaric.

Is an imitation of coin or other?
To what epoch could it be assigned?

Thank you

More that barbaric looks at "naif." ....they are  offerings (obolo) that the slaves of the country became for "offering" to their divinity.

Very interesting pieces you have there, Rugser.

It seems to me that these pieces carry the general themes of coins, but are much too crude (or naive, if you like) to ever have been intended as imitations.

Regarding dating, to me they seem to draw on bronzes from the imperial period, maybe 2-3 centuries? In fact, they have a bit of a provincial "feel" to them...

I am worthwhile with you. besides I around the dates would add also other  centuries ...first and after.
I have many other "Tessera."  I will put them, uniforms for "Class," when it will have restored the ability of the upload.

Remember that these are lead, and thus are proned to become damaged.  I do not thnk for an instant that they are barbaric. 8)
