Counter mark with new host coin

Delta and NIKO as usual.  But a new host coin: Because of the hairdo the bust looks like Plautilla.

A rev. variant or a correction

Septimius Severus,AD 193-211
AE 28, 10.01g, 28.07mm, 180°
struck under Aurelius Gallus
obv. AV.K.L.CEP. - CEVHROC P (HR ligate)
       Laureate head r.
rev. VP AV GALL - NIKOPOLI /  PROC I
Hygieia sth. r., feeding snake in r. arm from patera in l. hand
ref. a) not in AMNG
      b) not in Varbanov (engl.)
      c) Hristova/Jekov (2011) No. 8.14.21.4 var. (has GALLOV with ligate OV)
coll. Hoeft

This coin is in a bad shape, but has clearly only GALL. The ligate OV on HrJ (2011) 8.14.21.4 could well be only a die break. Then it would be correction.

regarding #543 Nice find!

cf. this one I posted a couple of years ago:

https://www.forumancientcoins.com/board/index.php?topic=53359.0

Here is my ID from 2010

AE26 11.5 gr. Septimius Severus Nikopolis ad Istrum Gallus

Obv: AV∙ Λ∙ CEΠ ∙ / CEVHPOC Π (HP ligature)
Laureate head right

Rev: VΠ AV ΓAΛΛOV / NIKOΠOΛI  (OV ligature)
Ex:  ΠPOC I ∙
Hygieia standing feeding snake from patera right

Brown patina;  letters in crude style

Obverse die match to ΓAΛΛ Heracles. First example I have come across of one of these HP ligate obverse dies with a ΓAΛΛ8 reverse.

AMNG -; Varbanov (E) -; Hr/J -; New reverse type for Gallus, no other recorded Hygieia sola.

The OV ligature is quite clear on my coin.  Jochen's clearly is only ΓAΛΛ (sic new rev die)

N.B. The  ΓAΛΛ abbreviation is rare and observed in the first Heracles rev in the attached thread with this same obv die. Interesting!

Your coin is depicted in Hristova/Jekov (2011) as No. 8.14.21.4. And it is really a ligate OV. Thanks for the contribution.

A new die combination

Septimius Severus, AD 193-211
AE 19, 3.12g
obv. AV L C - CEVHROC
       Laureate head r.
rev. NIKOPOLI PROC ICTRO
       Full moon with 1 star
ref. a) not in AMNG
      b) not in Varbanov (engl.)
      c) not in Hristova/Jekov (2011):
          rev. No. 8.14.48.17
          obv. e.g. No. 8.14.53.7 (lion)
vindobona-num, E-Bay, June 2012

Because the coins depicted in HrJ are very worn it is well possible that there is a coin with AV L C too.
