Hi, all. Here is a small lead object in the shape of a heart,
cast or more likely cut from a thin flat sheet of lead. Lionel
Holland published four similar pieces, also from Caesarea, in
his wonderful book "
Weights and Weight-like Objects from Caesarea Maritima" Hadera,
Israel 2009 (see clipping, below), available as a hard copy from various sources on-line. Chapters of the book are also available for download on Academia.edu (
search for "WWOCM").
Holland did not assign a definite function for these items, which are unmarked and do not appear to conform to any known
weight standard. Therefore, I would welcome ideas from any of our experts who may have seen similar finds from other areas. Thanks, as always, V-drome.
