Nemo's Gallery - Three Scarce to Rare Titus Denarii Added
« on: December 15, 2012, 03:49:39 pm »
Just started a gallery last month and it's a work in progress.  https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=4500

I just added a nasty looking Caracalla. [BROKEN LINK REMOVED BY ADMIN]

Any comments, suggestions are appreciated.

Added an extremely light weight Severus Alexander.  But it seems there are even lighter ones out there!

Added a hornless bust denarius of Elagabalus.  From what I can find, it seems like the horned vs hornless busts are about 5 to 1 or so for this type.

Just started a Judean gallery, I began with the Hasmonean Dynasty and related coins.  Hope you enjoy it!  Any comments, corrections, etc. are always welcome.

Just added a recently delivered Clodius Albinus as augustus denarius. A rarer issue it seems, can't find many examples online.

High relief portrait that I hope others enjoy as well.

I'm very happy to have just added a piece of Hacksilber, 8-6 centuries BCE from Israel.

https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-96324

The usual Hebrew term translated as “money,” keseph, literally means “silver.” (Ge 17:12) There was no coined money in Israel during the First Temple Period (1006-586 BCE).

Instead, pieces of precious metals were used, weighed out at the time a transaction was made.

Jer 32:10 "Then I wrote in a deed and affixed the seal and took witnesses as I went weighing the money in the scales."

Just added a denarius of Nero, IVPPITER CVSTOS reverse.

Now I just need to find someone who is tired of owning a denarius of Caligula to complete the 12 Caesars!

Just added the first coin to my Roman Provincial gallery. The only of it's type I've ever seen on the market.

As always, comments are enjoyed and appreciated.

A nice dynastic type! The frontal rather than profile head of Titus in the reverse type is a neat detail, as Jay remarks in your gallery.

RPC 1649 lists two with the abbreviation ET: Berlin ex Imhoof, published by him in Swiss Num. Review 1898; and Seaby's Bulletin, Sept. 1982, D 75.

Maybe that second example is identical with yours, if Bruce Brace purchased it from Seaby's? I can't easily check for a possible illustration, since our run of bound Bulletins ends with 1972.

Thanks for the input Curtis.  It would be exciting to out if in fact it was from Seaby's.  I suppose it would be quite difficult to find that bulletin.

What a prize coin! Certainly one of the more interesting provincial silver pieces I've seen. Nice to see it posted again.

Congrats!!
