Teenie, weenie surprise LRB Urbs Roma Beata RIC VII #408
« on: July 15, 2015, 02:04:19 pm »
Took a chance and picked up this little guy because the seller did not list it as a very scarce URBS ROMA BEATA variety obverse legend. Have the coin in hand and it is clearly one with faint lettering visible and legible.
Only have seen these up for offer a few times and they are sold very fast.
RIC indicates minted at the time of Constantine the Great death from LRBC #593
R leaf Q in exergue and wreath above.

Here is a Forum past post of one with an unlisted mintmark

Posted a link to a thread on another site that appears to be similar to mine

Nice find.  I always dreamed of finding one in an uncleaned lot but never did.  Had to buy one, and one that was IDed too.

Shawn, I feel the same regarding searching for coins. The pursuit in the hunt is half the enjoyment of owning a coin. Some coins took years to find and this challenge kept my interest in the hobby. Now if I could only discover a Sapient Principis
RIC VII #16 Rome Quarter Follis in one of those dealer's junk boxes or unidentified group lots!

My bet is it ain't going to happen!
By the way, the coin pictured has much better detail than shown (I tried a scan, not much better) and is only is only 13 mm
and once I find my scale will weigh it (venture @ 1.5 g).
The Rome mint during this period provides an interesting diversion of types and variations for the LRB collectors and this one here is an example.
Thanks for your reply.
