Hi, The ruler's name is not visible. But it's probably coin of Alexander Jannaeus, type Hendin 474 . There is rarely coins of Judah aristobulus with the same style .

Best Regards.
Frederic

I think the highlighting of the coin is wrong because there is no Ḥ where its supposed to be.

thank you for taking the time to look at the old coin.  I bought this coin when i was 9 years old.  for thirty years i have wondered what it was.  you have been very helpful.  you can e-mail me at joe_jasj@yahoo.com if you can think of anything else.

If it is Jannaeus, the inscription would translante as Yehonatan the High Priest and the Council of the Jews. Yehonatan (or Yonatan in his last issue) was his Hebrew name.

Yehonatan (or Yonatan in his last issue).
Although I do support the fact that Jannaeus' names wre spelt as YNTN and YHONTN, not Hyrcanus II, the names are still arguable.

While looking at it again, I can clearly see another nun above the Nun from the first line, meaning its either YNTN or YHONTN.
