Byzantine enthusiasts will no doubt be familiar with the ubiquitous gold and copper copies of the Hyperpyron S.2073 of John III Vatatzes.
The top picture below I posted elsewhere some time ago – it shows examples in gold and copper of the type, but whereas most of these copies are evidently struck (or maybe pressed), the copper version shown here seems to be a cast copy of the gold version, with some trimming of the margin at c. 1 o’clock on the reverse. Or maybe both coins are copies of some other host.
As well I show another example of a cast copy of the type, again with trimming around 1 o’clock.
