Hi Nemo,

When knowing the era and background of coins, one can't help imagining the daily life of the inhabitants.

Nice coin  +++

Thanks for the kind comments!

I'm eagerly awaiting a two more Judaea related pieces, probably a couple weeks away. One is very hard to find in solid silver but I was finally able to locate one that didn't destroy my budget. The other, a very worn bronze, but extremely rare in any condition.

I imagine the silver will be a DEVICTA; no guess regarding the bronze, however!

Your assumption on the silver is correct sir!

As far as the bronze is concerned, rare and worn for a Judean coin is a description that encompasses quite a variety, as many of the rare types are often heavily corroded.

To narrow it down, it was minted in Caesarea Paneas by a Jewish client king.  Although he died long before the rebellion in 66, according to Schwartz, "The hopes which were raised by his enthronement, and which refused to die with him, contributed to the faith which led to the great rebellion of 66-73 CE, and to catastrophe."

The obverse is the reigning Emperor and the reverse honors his deceased father in triumphal quadriga.

Guesses anyone?

Agrippa I under Caligula?

Correct!  Hendin 1240 to be exact.  I'll have them photographed and posted as soon as I get them.  Hopefully a little better than the dealer photos, but we'll see.

As I wait for my new pieces to clear customs, I'm trying to get some more of my coins in my gallery.  Here is a J C denarius I've had for a while.  I really like the abs on the male captive, perhaps I should focus more on this coin rather than my second bowl of ice cream.....

Just added a Sulla Torquatus denarius to my RR gallery.  Although not at all in my collecting focus, I found Roma so attractive I had to own this coin.

I just doubled the size of my Republic gallery by adding one coin! A Q. Sicinius denarius.

I do wonder why most of these issues are so well preserved (hoarded, why?) and why do the vast majority have beautiful iridescent toning?

And one for my Greek galleryAttica, Athens, 449-413 BC, silver tetradrachm.

Added a nice but worn early denarius of Vespasian with the typical Vitelliesque features.

Nice coin, congrats!

I've recently won another Vitellius like Vespasian denarius, I will add it to my gallery as soon as I will receive it.

Kind regards

I finally received my Agrippa I, Hendin 1240 this week.  Most coins of Agrippa I were evidently of a poor quality alloy, very susceptible to corrosion.  Mine is no exception so you're going to have to use a bit of imagination but, do to it's rarity, I'm thrilled to have it in my collection.

I just received my Nero / Statilina Messalina Æ27 as with Galba countermark.

https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-107639

In wildwinds it is listed as RPC 2061cf.  I'm sure this is a stupid question but could someone tell me what the cf refers to?

Enjoy!

Thanks Pekka,

Perhaps I need to start buying more books and fewer coins (and sleeping rather than posting coins).  Obverse die RPC 2057 NERWN KLAUDIOS KAISAR SEBASTOS GE radiate head left with reverse die RPC 2061.

A unique coin?

Two new Flavians just arrived. Both quite nice IMHO, the Vespasian has quite a powerful portrait.

I have just added a denarius from Antioch commemorating Vespasian's triumph after defeating Judaea.   I too will likely suffer defeat in trying to explain to my wife how this new addition is NOT a triplicate.

Even if the other two must go, I couldn't resist it.

https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-109160

Although they share the same attribution, she's got to clearly see all three are different dies!!!

Hope you enjoy them as much as I do,

I was able to bring the brothers back together. I am very happy with this Caesarea didrachm of Vespasian to go along with my didrachm with Titus.

https://www.forumancientcoins.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pos=-109856

A scarce coin but, with Vespasian as Gorbachev, this might be priceless rarity.

Enjoy,
Nemo

PS. I know coins showing a figure togate with a branch are not uncommon. What message is being sent here?

Beautiful coin.

RPC Supplement 3 has a new variant with CEBAC.

You should send a picture of your coin to Prof. Michel Amandry, to be included in the next Supplement.

Kind regards
