Took a break from the Capta types to add something a little different. Pescennius Niger with Fides.

Taking a break from my break and I'm back to the Capta, or more specifically, Devicta, type!  This time it's a coin that came to me as a gift, quite the huge surprise as a matter of fact.  This is a thrill for me as I think it is of fine style and, in hand, the breaks through the plating do not distract from its appeal.

Just added a "Vespasian in quadriga" denarius. Although the reverse is a bit off center, I found the portrait unusually nice. I get more of an Ephesian feeling from it than Antioch

I always enjoy the feedback!

Staying with the Shekel theme:

I enjoy this shekel, minted 67/68 CE, because these were a couple of the most exciting years in the Roman Empire (IMHO).

Just added a dynastic denarius of Vespasian.

I was drawn to the sinister looking reverse

I hate being the bearer of bad news, but your new acquisition is a cast forgery.

This cast used to be in the fake reports but after the recent attack I'm not sure if it sill is.

David,
I certainly appreciate you informing me of the the bad news.  I was correct that there was something sinister about this coin!  I did indeed find another example in the fake reports

Back to hunting down another example I suppose!

Thanks again,
Nemo

Ah man, that sucks.  Sorry to hear.  Can you get a refund?  At least this is a great picture for the fake reports.

Thanks Jay, I sent an email this morning, haven't heard back yet but I'm quite sure I'll get a refund.  Of course, till the money is back in my pocket.....   If highlighting this fake helps someone else from making the same mistake it'll be worth the trouble.

Well, I was told if I wasn't happy with the coin I could return it.  How could I be happy with a fake??  At least I'll get a refund.

Rather than stay down, I added a worn Titus / Dolphin around anchor denarius.  And this one better be real!

Still on the rebound, I've added an absolutely beautiful Siglos to my Persian gallery.  It's up to two coins now!!  What do you think?

Thanks Jay.  I should have mentioned its ex Forum. I don't know how long it had been listed for but I bought it within minutes of finding it.

I found this discussion so interesting and compelling (https://www.forumancientcoins.com/board/index.php?topic=88757.0) I was determined to eventually acquire one of these for myself.

It was fun to revisit the thread after receiving this in the mail.

Very happy to add one of the earliest examples of a coin type with an inscription to my collection.  Difficult for me to photograph, much nicer in hand.

Thanks guys!  I'm closing in on one of my collecting goals of at least one example of each emperor from Augustus to Severus Alexander, along with the occasional usurper or two.

Just added a nice, worn Vespasianus Sestertius.

I picked this up as a coin I can carry and to show friends without panicking about it being scratched or dropped. Interestingly enough, most people find a coin in this condition more believably ancient than one in GVF.  A 2000 year old coin has to be worn almost smooth, doesn't it???

Added a nice Jewish War bronze 1/8 shekel.  One the earliest examples of "siege money."  When I hold this coin, I can't help but reflect on the horrors the inhabitants of Jerusalem were experiencing at the time.
