I am thrilled to add two beautiful and interesting tetradrachms to my gallery.  Issued under Ptolemy I while at war with Antigonus.

The first shows traces of the undertype

This example was encapsulated (now freed) and described as damaged.  However, there is no damage to speak of.  It does have weight adjusted edges and the undertype profile of Alexander on the reverse.  It starts above the eagle and continues into Athena's shield and beyond.

Very nice coins. Love the Corinthian mask on the reverse.

Thanks Mark R1.  Here is the outline of the undertype for those who are trying to find it.

I just received an extremely rare Vespasian denarius from Ephesus with Vespasian countermarks on both sides!

That is a superb coin! Even without the c/m it would be fabulous.

I've only acquired one Ephesian with that c/m, and it was a common type.

Congrats!!

It was a treat to add this long sought after rarity. What appears to be a common type IV siglos is actually a very rare type with a helmet engraved in the reverse. This is by far the best i've ever seen of this type.

I couldn't pass up this tet, I just love the portrait.  I can't help but imagine him speaking with the voice of Don Corleone.

Maybe rare with the star to the right of Homonoia?

Maybe rare with the star to the right of Homonoia?

Only 5 specimens are cited in the core collections consulted in RPC. Rare indeed!

FWIW, yours is in slightly finer style than mine. Congrats!

Thanks David.  When it came up for sale, the star is what first caught my eye, I hadn’t recalled seeing it on this type before.  The portrait sold me though.
