Aurelian w/ not enough letters
« on: November 11, 2003, 10:15:59 pm »
Here is an Aurelian with what I suppect are not enough letters on the reverse to get the legend FORTVNA REDVX which is what would go with Fortuna seated with spear and shield holding something (either a rudder of maybe Victory)

The T is very prominate can anyone help on a legend that would fit?

Thanks...........Chip

LB,

Thanks...........That has a shot........... Maybe the Emp is off flan to the left. He needs to be in the reverse device for that legend to work for an Aurelian coin.

ANY OTHER ideas?

Hi Chip,
I think LordBest was right. I don`t have an attribution number for it, but there is a coin of Aurelian with reverse ROMAE AETERNE, Roma seated holding Victory and spear. I don`t think it`s real rare so you should be able to find a picture of it somewhere.

Hi,
I agree with these guys. I can't find a picture but there is a link to the identification on ANS below. I think it is RIC 337 from Cyzicus.

Obv:- IMP AVRELIANVS AVG, Radiate, draped bust right
Rev:- ROMAE AETERNE, Roma seated left, holding Victory and sceptre

maridvnvm,

I think you you hit on it. AETERNE without the A on the end. I had stopped when I found the AETERNEA and that still did not seem to fit, but without the A it looks to be correct.

I tryed your link and it did not work by clicking it so I had to cut and paste the whole thing.  I have found if you use the site TINYURL at http://tinyurl.com and put in the complete url you get a "smaller" one to post. Like this:

http://tinyurl.com/uokg is the one for your reference

OBTW I could not find a ref an WW or DOC and sent it to Dave lets see if he posts it.

THANKS.........Chip
