Fake Athens?
« on: September 20, 2021, 02:41:48 pm »
This one is almost too cheap to be real, so....
I feel like the edges on the obverse is NOT worn enough, and the square indentures on the chin puts me off too...
On the reverse, the owl is maybe not worn equally, but the surface of the field looks  ... not good  .. to me.

Please let me know your thoughts!

Weight?
From the picture alone, it looks OK to me, but it is not possible to make a definite assertion from photos.

Thank you for your comments.
I
The weight is NOT listed, and I thought, that might also be a warning sign ...

We really do not preview potential purchases--but of course you may have just been inquiring out of curiosity.  There have been man Athenian tetradrachms on the market over the last few years, and the big test cut certainly reduces value in many collectors' eyes.

i was not aware that a specific inquiry was'nt good style.
But it seemed better to ask BEFORE the money was spent  ;-)
I shall refrain from doing so an other time.

Yes, the test cut is of course a major price deduction, what also brings the coin into MY affordable range  :-)
Thank you for your time.
