Kamarina tetradrachm - Authentic or not?
« on: June 19, 2021, 10:04:19 am »
I would welcome opinions on what looks like a Kamarina tetradrachm.
It was part of a collection in the U.K. recently auctioned, and I have bought it.
It weighs 16.7g., and appears to be silver.
The details are well-struck, which is unusual for this issue, but they are correct.
Could it be genuinely struck from the dies in their early state?

I cannot authenticate the coin from a photo. There are well made fakes of the type struck with transfer dies.

Thank you, Joe.
I fully realize the coins requires testing, as Ilya wrote, to be declared authentic or not.
At least it appears not an obvious fake, judging from the photos of it.
I will have it tested.
Kind regards,
Michael
