Greek AR to ID
« on: March 16, 2021, 05:51:34 am »
Can anyone ID this coin? It appears to be possibly Bithynian or from Aeolis, Kyme. The obverse portrait is female. The reverse shows a horse standing right, front left leg raised and has the letters "BAΣΙΛΕΩΣ" in exergue.

Diameter - 17 mm
Weight - 3.6 g

Best regards,
Nicola

I don't find any coin with an Artemis on the obverse (you see the bow over her shoulder) and a horse with BAΣIΛΕΩΣ on the reverse.
Unfortunately I am not able to decypher the letters above the horse.
Besides of that the surface of your coins looks quite strange  :-\.

So I doubt that this is an authentic piece  :-\.

Indeed, it shows all the indications of being a modern cast.

Latin word CITIUS in Latin letters. Meaning FASTER in English.

To me it looks like Greek "Bitios," a Thracian chief.  Note the Basileus below--unlikely that half the legend is in Latin, half in Greek.  In any case, I think it is a cast.

Are the authentic coins with this design and legend?
The coin in this thread is a cast of a AE replica from Petar Petrov
